The weather was once again perfect for the Blount Co. Maryville-Alcoa Parks and Rec Songs by the Brook free summer concert series at Springbrook Park in Alcoa. Lots of folks came out for an evening of outstanding entertainment with performances by Pistol Creek Catch of the Day and The Bus Driver Tour with Ian Thomas.

Blount County Maryville Alcoa Parks and Rec put on another great free concert last night for their Songs by the Brook series at Springbrook Park in Alcoa.
Singer-songwriter Jay Clark and The Tennessee Tree Beavers opened the show with some fine picking, singing and story telling with an environmentally conscious "beer drinking gospel" flavor.
Headliner Laurel Wright had to cancel at the last minute, but Parks & Rec pulled off a major surprise getting East Tennessee's beloved singer-songwriter and award winning recording artist Robinella to perform. Her opening jazzy interpretation of Somewhere Over the Rainbow got everyone's attention right quick. Some folks around us (apparently not from around here) were like "Who's that girl? She's amazing!" Indeed, she is.
Turnout for the second concert in the series was great once again, and the weather cooperated with beautiful clear blue skies. Despite the 90 degree heat, Springbrook Park is always a few degrees cooler, and the shade and a cool breeze made for a comfortable setting.
The series concludes next month with Pistol Creek Catch of the Day and The Bus Driver Tour featuring Ian Thomas, Thursday, Sept. 25th, 5:30 PM at Springbrook Park. Y'all come on out.
Parks & Rec have done an outstanding job with this series, and we hope it's back next year.
