As some of you have undoubtedly heard, reports from a number of sources indicate an FBI investigation of a few of our Blount County officials is underway. If you have information about wrongdoing or questionable activities by our county officials or employees, now is the time to talk to the FBI. The phone number for their political corruption hotline at the local office (Knoxville) is 888-678-6720. Make notes before you call. Give the investigator all the information you can. Try to keep it as short as possible, these guys are very busy. If you get a recording, leave a short message. They usually get back to you in less than 48 hours. This may be the best opportunity in many years to clean up our county. Please act now. |

Finally, this is out in the open! I agree, this is the best opportunity ever to help make things right. The thinly veiled disdain shown to ANYONE who dares to question the GOB Club may be coming to an end. I wish I could help but I have no first-hand knowledge or proof to assist in this investigation---only lots 'n lots of rumors and whispers about who did what. The greed and arrogance has reached a level that can no longer be ignored or tolerated. This is not a Democrat, Independent or Republican issue. It affects everyone--whether you believe it or not, whether you ignore it or not. When your county has a "reputation" that reaches a long, long way from home, it is time to do something. It takes courage to speak out because it won't be easy. If no one has done anything wrong or illegal, then they have nothing to fear. Illegal is illegal, crooked is crooked, wrong is wrong. Remember, there is no such thing as "a little bit pregnant." You either are or you are not.

Is anyone really serious about wanting to know what happened on this case or is this just idle banter to occupy ur time. Who will protect those who are at risk of the whims of that administration who let me assure you will protect themselves at all costs. This is not supposition or rumor, it is fact. I know several people who end up on the wrong end of that administration and find themselves "transfered" which is just the first step in punishing an employee with in the Sheriff's Office. Should one not learn their lesson from working in the jail for six, twelve, or eighteen months, then comes the Internal affairs investigations on every little citizen complaint or grip, or something completely manufactured. What do the people on this site have to offer anyone who has put themselves, their reputaions, their livliehood, their careers on the line to bring attention to the corruption and contempt that the administration at that office holds for the citizens of Blount County. Everything in that article was factually consistent with what actually happened but there is far more to the story then the daily times was able to print because people are afraid to tell the truth for fear of reprisals. Rightfully so. What is not public knowledge for instance is that two of the officers responsible for bringing this corruption to the front were transferred out of the 5th Judicial drug task force while the perpertrator was supposedly reprimanded and allowed to remain as director of the drug task force. Who will stand up and make that right? Any suggestions?? One of those officers by the way was so heartsick over the treatment he received from the administration that he resigned. Now, so some of u say good for him! NO!!! It's not good for him. He has a family. A wife, two kids and resigned and was forced to pull his retirement out and live off of that until he could find a way to earn more money. Both of the Officers involved in the "whistleblowing" are over 12 year veterans with the sheriff's office. WHO CAN PROTECT THEM. What can we as citizens do to make sure that no further retribution is leveled as individuals who bring corruption and injustice to light. You want the truth? You want the story? No you don't!!! It's worse than the daily times ever imagined.

This whole style of fear mongering the sheriff has stolen from his Neo-Con buddies in DC is going to end whether he likes it or not. In a year, others are going to get dig into national records and see the way these guys have corrupted both the law and the justice system. We are lucky our election process happens as frequently as it does. What I know must look like a lock to you is not. The sheriff and his cronies are finished. One thing you could do, is gather a like minded circle of those who want to be part of solution and come with some replacements. Who ever gets the job, has to be ready to throw out the entire top level of the ranks.

If you happen to know members of the BCSO, tell them this quote. Tell them to reflect back over this past year and ask "Who's really looking out for me?".
Then find out who got the big the raises - the little guy or the big "chiefs"? Wasn't the sheriff on tape capitulating that the money for raises should be focused on lieutenant and below? Members of the BCSO, is this how it happened?
When help finds you or you see progress - remember to come back here and say so. Others need to know the fight is worth fighting. Telling your stories, sharing your information and exposing the machine is how you win. The best way to protect yourself is to propagate what you know.
No doubt. Even when the sheriff gets his SRO money, he doesn't use it for them. Then it all becomes about how your kids aren't safe. Ever wonder why the sheriff needs 3 paid chaplains and more than 30 volunteer ones? Think that could be a we'll handle your traffic just make sure the congregation gets a few sermons on how dangerous the Blount streets are type of deal? And don't forget the mayor. He has told citizens the post 9/11 world is just way to "dangerous" to allow citizens to meet at the courthouse.

Why does the Sheriff need so many unmarked cars? How can you have them protect you if you don't know who they are? How does an unmarked car provide a pressence. Maybe for undercover work 4 or 5 might be needed, but 20 to 30? I dont think so.
OK Blount, I have heard so many rumors about the Sheriff's Dept. since moving here but have never heard any actual proof to support the rumors. This looks like the time and place, if you have info that can be documented, to get it in out into the open.
This is really good news for the County if the FBI is checking into facts of corruption, but let's take it to all levels of our government.
I guess even within County government those that hang their hats on the ways of the GOB's club eventually will get caught. Ethics, values, and morals? I sense we may be finding out all 3 are (and have been) lacking in the County for many years. (Hopefully, none are found to have a 'wide stance'.)
Maybe the FBI can eliminate some leg work and just set up office in the county HR department. I'd say with all the people lining up to get the ethics violation forms, the Feds could save some time just taking them as they come. The post here are correct, NOW is the time. Don't find yourself saying in six months; "I wish I would have spoken up when..........."
If you're not sure if your information will help, trust your instincts, and let the Feds decide whether your information is valuble or not.
Lets hope none have acquired interns to help them promote their "wide stance".
Win250 and Fairview Angel, if you know something factual, you should go to the FBI. If you have already done so, you are to be commended. I find it curious that so many people seem to know about this, but only in rumoresque generalities. Can anyone give me names, faces and places?

but it has seemed to have got worse since the passenger in the koella van on the night the man was killed decided laws in Tennessee didn't apply to his group. i guess we will see if anything has changed.
You praise the agent that works Cocke County. Don't you know that all his stuff goes through the same US Attorney's Office you just criticized? My guess is that you tried to lodge a B.S. complaint that was found to have no merit and are sour about it. They don't play politics in that office like you are accusing them of. If nothing is done on a Federal level on this, then that means there was no violation of Federal law. Stop spreading this vast political conspiracy crap into another jurisdiction.

Bush having US Attorneys removed for investigating his buddies wasn't political (Atta boy Gonzo)? I'm all for the local US Attorney investigating many issues in Blount, but for now, I'm taking Reagan's stance;

Do not forget which local mayor used to be US Attorney. The idea that that is not a political position is at best naive.
I know politics plays a part in the appointment process for the US Attorney. The current US Attorney did not play politics to get the position. If politics had played out, someone closer to the Corker campaign would have received the appointment. Mr. Dedrick got the appointment because he is a good man who has worked hard in that position for many years now.
I am amazed to see how much innuendo people throw out in a discussion just to see if some kind of impropriety will stick. Those that want to criticize the US Attorney's office in the infant stages of the investigation are trying to impugn the character of the that office. That way, just in case things don't turn out the way the critics think they should, people can say the fix was in from the get-go.
That's what we're hoping.
Don't worry about what some "critics" might say. Most Blount residents know the "fix" has been in for years and hope the days of the political machine that put it in are numbered.
But we've heard it all before, so for now, I'll continue to trust - but verify.
I actually heard this guy(Capt Ron Talbott) stand up in front of a bunch of people at a citizens meeting and state that he was proud that the BCSO spent 8 years on a drug investigation that netted them a piece of property.
He also stated that drug tests are given "ramdomly, monthly" which made absolutley no sense whatsoever. Trust me when I say that this guy is underhanded.
I have lived in BC all my life and know what's going in the BCSO inside and out. I have no use for Sheriff "Jimbo" at this stage in my life.
I'm just glad that these folks are finally been found for what they are.

The downfall of this county lies squarely with the local DA's office. They are the only ones really who can do anything about these individuals.
But when you have a DA's office that won't prosecute their buddies, then government has failed.

Well, I'm not sure it's helpful for either side to go around calling people crooks and criminals. If you have evidence of crimes, you should take them to the State AG. He is duty bound to investigate them.
If you want to talk about differences in opinion about how taxpayer money is spent, that's one thing. Calling people criminals when you don't agree with their policy is another.
That's not the tone we want to set here, but if you have legitimate concerns that you can substantiate with verifiable facts then I'm sure there will be lots of folks interested.

Our elected commissioners were told by the sheriff that was none of their business. Citizens have asked repeatedly for a proper account. No answers.
When the Mayor in front of the Budget Committee says the PBA is under investigation by the TBI when he knew they weren't, what to you call it?
