Thompson didn't want to run. You could see it written all over his face. He may be a fairly good actor, but you could see right through his distaste for this run. He never turned his campaign into anything serious. It still puzzles me that someone (or a group) convinced him to give it a try. He seems too smart to knuckle under pressure from Republican heavy-hitters. Knowing what you know now, do you honestly believe he could have won the primary here in TN? Not a chance-and that probably factored in his decision, too.

It was painfully obvious all the way through that either he didn't really want the job (thank goodness) or was so arrogant that he thought it would just come to him w/ little effort. Ugh.

I'm just happy he dropped out. I heard too many people think he was the "next Reagan", and I hated the first one.

There could be worse than Thompson.

During the Senate Trial of President Bill Clinton, Thompson's web page explained nuances of the issue and why he voted against most of the articles of impeachment. I respected his reasoning on this issue and his vote where it actually counted.

Thompsons votes are unlike the empty protest votes of John Duncan, I know of no instance where Duncan has cast a protest vote when the outcome was close. Perhaps someone can inform me of some.
