Maryville, TN – Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Sharon Lee will deliver the keynote address during the 2009 East Tennessee Regional Women’s Economic Summit scheduled for Thursday, June 4th on the Maryville College campus. Nashville General Sessions Judge Angelita Blackshear-Dalton will open the Summit’s breakfast meeting.
"We’re thrilled to bring these distinguished professionals to East Tennessee," says Sharon Hannum, co-leader of this year’s event. "They are an inspiration to all women who aspire to reach the top of their profession."
The one-day Economic Summit for Women, hosted by the Women’s Economic Foundation and the Center for Strong Communities at Maryville College, offers two learning tracks. One track focuses on establishing and growing a business in a challenging economy. The second track focuses on personal and professional skills development. Participants may choose the session of their choice in either track.

Registration is $30 and covers breakfast, lunch and event materials. To register, mail a check for $30 to TECW Foundation, c/o Center for Strong Communities, Maryville College, 502 E. Lamar Alexander Pkwy., Maryville, TN 37804. Exhibitors can expose their business or service to Summit attendees by hosting a booth for $50.

The newest member of the Tennessee Supreme Court, Justice Lee was appointed by the Governor in October 2008. A graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, Lee worked in private practice in Madisonville for 26 years. She served as Monroe County Attorney, Madisonville City Judge and City Attorney for Vonore and Madisonville. She served on the Tennessee Court of Appeals, Eastern Section from 2004 until her appointment to the Supreme Court.
Prior to her election to General Sessions Court in 2006, Judge Angelita Blackshear Dalton served as Assistant Prosecutor for the Davidson District Attorney General. A member of the Nashville Bar Association, Blackshear Dalton is also active in the Lawyers’ Association for Women, Women’s Political Caucus and the NAACP.
The Tennessee Economic Council on Women, created by the legislature in 1998, assesses the economic status of Tennessee women. The Council develops and advocates solutions to address women’s needs to help them achieve economic self-sufficiency. Members of the TECW represent each of nine Development Districts of Tennessee, the State’s university system, the Governor’s cabinet, women’s organizations, the Black Caucus and the Women’s Caucus, along with members from the Senate and House.
